Monica Crawford - PhD Candidate, University of Minnesota

I am a PhD Candidate at the Hubbard School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Minnesota. In my research I focus on women’s sports media coverage, digital platforms, and audience practices. I’ve published my award winning work in Media, Culture & Society, Communication and Sport, and the Sociology of Sport Journal. I have experience teaching classes on the role of digital media in society, popular culture, and sports media and information.

My current dissertation project explores how U.S.-based women’s sports audiences access and encounter women’s sports media and the rising presence of women’s sports bars across the U.S.
